MONTREAL, LA POINTE-DE-L’ÎLE — The Conservatives are trying to justify the gutting of employment insurance by using public funds for partisan purposes, said New Democrat MP Ève Péclet (La Pointe-de-l’Île).

Recently, residents of Pointe-de-l’Île, like many other Canadians in Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes, received a letter from the government describing the changes to EI. However, by disguising the origin of the letter, Canadians instead received a partisan document from the Conservatives.

“During the public assembly on the EI reform organized by my office, in collaboration with my colleague from Honoré-Mercier, many people expressed concerns because they have seasonal jobs or are on a contract. The Conservatives clearly didn’t do their homework before launching their full scale attack against workers. The gutting of EI isn’t based on impact studies, but on an ideology that is disconnected from the reality of Canadians,” said Ève Péclet.

During an assembly on the controversial EI reform, held a few weeks ago, citizens expressed concerns about changes that could put them at risk financially.

Péclet said it was unacceptable for the Conservatives to use public funds to promote their controversial EI reform. “It’s obvious propaganda from the Conservative Party, because it contains the same half-truths they’ve been repeating for months!” Go to http://bit.ly/ZEcxFl to learn more.

“Citizens of Pointe-de-l’Île are not fooled. Hundreds of them expressed their disagreement by completing and sending us a reply coupon opposing the changes to EI.”
